Ever since I’ve bought my first batch of succulent cuttings I have been a little obsessed. If I had the room (and time) I would definitely have them everywhere in my home.

I have to admit though, they are a little sensitive to changes, absolutely cannot be overwatered, and need a little TLC every now and again.  Then again, I think all plants need a little TLC even if you don’t have a green thumb. I definitely do not, so if I can grow these beauties so can you!

Steps:

  • First, find a lovely assistant. Check, got one! Next, find a shovel and your mason jars. Check, check.
  • Obtain dirt and sand, and mix it up 50/50.
  • We used such a small bucket that we had to use a spoon! Oh well, at least my mini-me (Ms. Ava) had a blast!
  • Then, add rocks to the bottom of each mason jar. We are very resourceful. We used the ones around our old house.
  • Next, add shells. We had recently been to the beach so no problem here!
  • Last, add your dirt and sand mixture to the top, and plant one succulent in each jar.
  • Add a little bit of twine to spice it up.

Transfer Your Cuttings

Originally, I put all of these cuttings into a few of our reclaimed planter boxes but soon realized that a couple of these succulents would be taking over if I didn’t transfer them into their own happy environment.

I just so happen to have quite a few mason jars from canning, shelves, and from other random explorations so this seemed to be the perfect solution for my problem. Thankfully there are countless blogs with helpful tips on how to correctly plant succulents into glass jars.

Tip: Due to succulents being desert plants it is essential to ensure that they do not get too much water, and are able to drain thoroughly when you do water them.
