I want to start off this post by admitting two things right off the bat. I’m going to let it all hang out. Well, not literally. Nobody wants to see that! 🙂
Do NOT Do This By Yourself
DIY Wood Panel Door
Here’s my entire experience making the door, along with some steps and tips for you.
Supplies
You will need these supplies for this project:
- An old door
- Reclaimed Wood
- Exterior satin latex paint
- Wood putty
- Handle (I used a stick from outside)
Directions
Here are all my steps, I hope you can avoid some of my mistakes.
1.) Choose your door
2.) Remove the door from the hinges

3.) Measure the Door

4.) Cut the Boards to Fit the Door

5.) Make Sure the Door Fits the New Frame

6.) Trim the Door

7.) Fill holes with wood putty
8.) Paint the Door
9.) Let it Dry Overnight
I forgot to take a picture of the hinges while I fixed them, but I sanded them down and spray painted them with my favorite color in Rust-Oleum oil rubbed bronze spray paint. Remember: lots of thin coats of paint and plentyyyy of time to dry!

10.) Attach the new doorknob

It’s fabulous – and LOVE the door handle – that was such a great idea !!!
Thank you so much Suzan! I have to admit that the door handle is my favorite part 🙂
