Sign making is a piece of (cup)cake! Let me show you how easy it can be with this super simple, tutorial using stamps. Plus, kid-friendly too!

Believe it or not, this particular sign was created by mistake. And when I say mistake, I mean it wasn’t planned, the original didn’t even kind of turn out how I wanted it to, and in fact, I didn’t even like this version until I took a step back from it.

Isn’t it crazy how sometimes in life you get so consumed with trying to create this “perfect” piece only to discover that it’s gorgeous just the way it was/is? How about that for a little wisdom to brighten your day? 😉 But seriously, enough of the heavy, this sign is perfectly imperfect, and I absolutely LOVE that about it.

Not to mention, it’s so easy to make it’s ridiculous. It’s two-fer, my friends! So, let’s get started! Here’s How to Make a Sign Using Stamps:

SUPPLIES

STEPS

  1. For this project you can either have a phrase, design/pattern in mind, or just go with the flow.
  2. Gently push your stamp into your ink, and repeat until you have created your message or pattern.
  3. Let your ink dry.
  4. Then, paint the sides of your board if you’d like.
  5. Last, add a light layer of your top coat spray paint for protection and let it dry.
  6. Then, if you’d like, frame it up, add twine, or even wire. Your choice!

NOTE

Make sure to use untreated wood when using stamps. I’ve found that no matter how long you let them dry on painted wood they never seem to stay set and become “smudge-proof”.

I told you it was easy!! And chances are, if you like to “get crafty wit it” like I do, I’m sure you have most of these supplies on hand anyways. Plus, as you can see from my own photos this sign isn’t perfect by any means. There are smudges from my hands, fingers, and even the stamps themselves all over it. And you know what? That’s ok!

Find a funny, silly, and/or quirky quote that you love and go with it. Have fun, maybe even make it with your son or daughter. Then, hang that baby up and enjoy your masterpiece!
