How Do You Stay Inspired?

I am so excited to be sharing a few tips, tricks, and my own inspiration over on my absolutely FAVORITE designer (aka. Meredith Myer)’s blog Love Jack and Mo today! Meredith is an extremely creative and brilliant graphic designer that specializes in logo and brand designs, and I cannot stress how truly amazing she really is.

I am so delighted to not only have worked with her in the past (check out my logo and Designer Trapped in a Lawyer’s Body!), but also to call her a friend! So, hop on over to her blog as soon as you can and check out the post. THEN, most definitely peruse her gorgeous designs at Jack and Mo–her design shop. I promise that you will not be disappointed!

On a side note…

Let’s take a quick journey back in time to when I first started The Summery Umbrella. Just to give a little more information on my answers to “how do you stay inspired”?

Back then, it was an extremely vulnerable time in my life to say the least. Within six months of creation I had gotten married, delivered my little mini me (Miss Ava) into the world, moved to North Carolina (since Mike was currently stationed as a Marine down here), and had started a new full-time job (which I was not a fan of). Did I fail to mention that I struggle with crazy anxiety on a “normal” basis let alone a whole lifestyle change?!

It was definitely very trying experience on many occasions.

I would absolutely be lying my big ol’ booty off (hmm, something I may need to look into in the future…!) if I said that starting your own business is easy.

How Do You Stay Inspired?

It’s not.

If you decide to start your own creative business you’re going to find out very quickly that it’s going to be extremely hard. Not just like… oh my dear Betsy.. I hate running 5 miles.

It’s going to be more along the lines of …. I’m insane. Why did I think I could do a triathlon without practicing a few times?

I must be insane.

Wait–hold up. I AM INSANE!!

However.

Don’t get me wrong. I. LOVE. MY. JOB.

Every single minute, of every single day, of every single month, and every single year that I’ve been doing it this far.

I love being my own boss, and absolutely enjoy being able to make my own rules, decisions as well as to do lists for myself (which are endless btw).

But you know what? I will always be one of the first people in line telling you that if you want to start your own–you should.

There is absolutely no reason that you shouldn’t pursue this dream if you want it, but on the same hand… it’s going to take a lot of work.

Hard work.

Dedication.

And a lot of dreaming. OH yea… dreaming and wishing and knowing that you can design your own clothing line, write that fantasy novel that you always wanted to, or even fly to the moon and start your own colony.

The only person that can hold you back is……… yourself.
