Summer Sign Collection

It’s so funny to me to look back at some of my older signs now that I’ve been creating them for over four years. I have to admit that I do in fact cringe, when I see my name/The Summery Umbrella associated with a few of them. Do you do that too? Look at your older designs/publications/etc. and hope that no one will see these earlier editions?

I realize now that I wouldn’t be where I am today without this learning experience and the whole experimenting with the process, but I am also super excited with how far I’ve already come.

For instance, this new sign collection just makes me giddy with eye candy goodness and absolutely over the moon with joy since I was finally able to figure out how to add a little bit of color to my signs without completely overdoing it.

You see, I’m a coloraholic.

Really, I am.

I have a problem.

You see, I LOVE color, and LOVE gorgeous bursts of it.

So, with this new Summer Sign Collection, being that it’s for summer, and that I was CRAVING color in a terrible way I decided to figure out an easy way to add a touch without complicating the process.

{Take Me to the Ocean}

If you’ve ever made a sign before you’ll know that it’s not incredibly difficult to do one color or even one sign.

However, when you start creating multiples, and adding various steps to each of them… it can make everything less enjoyable in the long run. Believe it or not I was working on my Fresh Zinnias sign for over two months trying to figure out the best way to make it quick and painless.

Wanna know a secret? The detail on the flowers is made from a homemade stamp!

I drew my design on a piece of foam, and then using a wood burning tool (like the one referenced) I burned out my intricate stamp so I would not have to pick out vinyl pieces of the flower petals every time. You know how much time this stamp saves me? Thirty minutes per sign. Amazing, right?
